DESSIN presented at Climate Change conference

BEDESSINDESSIN scientist Pere Camprovin from Cetaqua held a presentation at the “Deltas in Times of Climate Change II” Conference that took place in Rotterdam from 24th to 26th of September.

During the conference was a workshop named “Creating and managing subsurface water buffers as a solution for fresh water shortage in coastal areas”. The workshop started with an introduction of the potential of water buffering solutions and managed aquifer recharge, showing examples and experiences worldwide.

The session continued with inspiring case-studies on specific characteristics and challenges (e.g. governance, technologies, costs-benefits), where Pere Camprovin presented the DESSIN project and the case study of Llobregat. Also presented were the cases of innovative aquifer recharge in the Netherlands by Arjen de Vries from Acacia Water and the creation of fresh water bubbles in brackish aquifers by Prof.dr. Kazi Matin Ahmed from Dhaka University in Bangladesh.

The workshop aimed to create a roadmap for introducing and upscaling these promising concepts to the audience, in which national and international experiences were joined together.

The workshop was also attended by Marcel Paalman and Koen Zuurbier from KWR, who are responsible for the Westland demo site in DESSIN. They invited Pere Camprovin to visit the Westland demonstration site, which created the opportunity to share the different demonstration sites characteristics and new project advances.
