DESSIN demonstrates scale model of Westland ESS on Adaption Futures Conference
From 10 to 13 May, the Adaptation Futures Conference was held in Rotterdam in the Netherland. Adaptation Futures is the biennial conference of the Global Programme of Research on Climate Change Vulnerability, Impacts and Adaptation (PROVIA). In 2016 the European Commission and the Government of the Netherlands co-host the fourth edition. Adaptation Futures 2016 is where scholars, practitioners, policymakers and business people from all around the world go to connect, learn and inspire. It highlights adaptation practices and solutions for people, governments and businesses. The programme addresses all sectors and all parts of the world.
The scale model of the Westland demosite was demonstrated on the market-place for practices and solutions. The scale model included a rainwater harvesting and treatment system, as well as a sand tank model of the aquifer storage and recovery, applied at the Westland site. The realisation of the scale model was part of the DESSIN project to better demonstrate this ESS. With the scale model, the aquifer storage can be actively simulated. This attracted many international stakeholders in the field of water management, who finally could see with their own eyes how the freshwater was stored in between the sand grains.
On Friday 13th, one of the Field Trips of the conference head to the Westland Demosite during an excursion in cooperation with the Waterbuffer Foundation.
