Emschergenossenschaft introduces DESSIN to German water sector
Members of the Emschergenossenschaft introduced the DESSIN project at a number of meetings, workshops and conferences in Germany during the last few months.
The Emscher case was presented to an audience of about 1000 people at the Essener Tagung für Wasser- und Abfallwirtschaft in April 2015, which was about water and waste water management and had the motto “Research meets practice”.
In September/October 2014, the Ecosystem Services (ESS) approach in the Emscher area was introduced to a German audience during the German limnology conference (DGL-Tagung) and in May 2015, the Emscher case was presented again during the 5. Ecological Colloquium of the BfG & the PIANC-Seminar, which was about bringing ESS experts and adopters together, presenting methods and studies on ESS and exchanging experiences on the application of the ESS approach. Based on the outcome of this meeting, PIANC is going to produce “Guidelines for best practice for water navigation infrastructure” within their “Working-with-nature program”.
The Emschergenossenschaft also did some networking in the name of DESSIN at a seminar on real time control (RTC) of sewer networks (3. Deutscher Kanalnetzbewirtschaftungstag) in June 2015 and at the 4. Leipziger Gespräche zur Wasserrahmenrichtlinie in April 2015, which dealt with the implementation of the Water Framework Directive – where in certain cases also ESS can be taken into consideration.
