Work area meeting in Barcelona
About twenty DESSIN researchers and scientists held a meeting on the 4th and 5th of March at the Cetaqua headquarters in Barcelona. The objective of the meeting was the internal coordination and evaluation of the status of progress with WA1 activities, as December 2015 will be a key date for the delivery of most of WA1’s results. Specifically, the ESS evaluation framework was presented and drafts of some upcoming deliverables were shared and discussed.
This meeting allowed a direct interaction between mature sites representatives (Emscher, Llobregat and Aarhus) and developers of ESS evaluation framework. It consisted in a fruitful discussion to establish the indicators to evaluate ESS based on the CICES classification. Economists and environmentalists joined efforts to get a common language regarding the assessment of ecological services and the methodologies. Moreover, background documents were presented as a baseline for further discussion.
Mature site representatives from Emscher and Aarhus visited the demonstration site (injection well in the Drinking Water Treatment plant) and the mature site of Llobregat, the infiltration system of managed aquifer recharge in the low valley of the Llobregat. Biweekly telephone conferences have been established to have a regular contact and come forward with the evaluation of technological improvements carried out in Spain, Germany and Denmark.
Next face to face meeting will take place in June at the Emscherquellhof (close to the source of the Emscher river) in Germany. There, DESSIN partners will have the opportunity to learn about and from the Emscher mature site, as well as share their latest developments and results.
