SINTEF is a multidisciplinary private research institute that performs contract research and development for industry and the public sector. It is Scandinavia’s largest independent research organisation with about 2000 employees of whom around 70% are researchers. SINTEF performs projects primarily within the technological area, but also in natural sciences, medicine, and social sciences. SINTEF collaborates closely with the Norwegian University of Science and Technology and the University of Oslo.

In DESSIN, SINTEF will participate with 4 departments, SINTEF Water and Environment, SINTEF Communication Systems, SINTEF Applied Economics and SINTEF Energy. The main task of SINTEF will be the coordination of Work Area 2 (Development and Enabling of Innovative Solutions) and innovations for water quality / water framework directive (WFD) implementation and Hoffselva demonstration: improving water quality in the peri-urban Hoffselva area, contributing to research and technological development (RTD) and demonstration activities.
